Join us in person or virtually for the second spring Co-Integrate session on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at noon.

We will meet in the seminar space; light refreshments provided but please feel free to bring your lunch.

If you need or prefer to join via Zoom, registration is required:

ABSTRACT: In this talk, we will share some of our past, present, and future efforts to support students’ defining and conjecturing activity. We will engage in some of the tasks that we are currently implementing with two calculus students. We will also discuss two future directions of our work: optimizing our task design for the whole class setting to promote equitable participation and developing science-based motivational tasks that elicit informal ideas about calculus concepts.

BIOS: Kristen Vroom is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in Lyman Briggs College and the Program in Mathematics Education. Her research in undergraduate mathematics education focuses on the teaching and learning of mathematical practices such as defining, conjecturing, and proving.

Saul Barbosa is a second-year doctoral student in the Program in Mathematics Education interested in the values students have regarding the validity of mathematical proof.

Tenchita Alzaga Elizondo is a Research Associate at Portland State University. Her research primarily focuses on transforming undergraduate mathematics courses through inquiry-oriented instruction with a focus on proof-based courses.

We hope to see you Thursday!
