The College of Education and the College of Natural Science at Michigan State University (MSU) invite applications for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor position focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Education beginning in August 2024. The candidate is expected to pursue a research agenda in AI and education. The qualifications of the candidate will determine the rank of the position. 

The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment with the Colleges of Education and Natural Science. The candidate's background will determine the department(s) where the candidate will be housed. The colleges have several grants in areas related to AI and education, with current faculty from both colleges engaged in various efforts. The successful candidate will hold a position in a growing Center in Education and Emerging and Advanced Learning Technologies

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain a scholarly research, publication, and grant writing record.
  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses related to AI, data science, and their applications to education and educational research.
  • Advise graduate students and supervise graduate student research.
  • Engage in service activities to promote scholarship and innovations related to AI and Education within the MSU community and beyond

The research associate will work in collaboration with the Director of CREATE and faculty in the Colleges of Education to develop and revise high school chemistry curricular materials; support the design and development of research; collecting, organizing and analyzing data; and writing scholarly materials.

 
Responsibilities include working in coordination with the director of CREATE and other faculty to: develop, implement and revise curriculum materials secondary high school chemistry; develop, revise, and analyze assessments of student learning; support the design and development of research; design, develop and implement professional development with both urban and suburban schools and teachers;  collect, organize and analyze data; provide management and leadership for the project; work with a team to plan and write reports, conference papers and journal articles that disseminate the research; and make presentations at regional and national conferences.


The candidates will collaborate with faculty, post-docs, and graduate students in Michigan State's CREATE for STEM Institute (https://create4stem.msu.edu/).

Required Degree

Doctorate -Sciences (chemistry education or in science)

Minimum Requirements

Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. in the sciences, preferrable chemistry education or in science education.

Desired Qualifications

Candidates who hold a Ph.D. in Science Education with a strong background in chemistry preferred or a Ph.D. in Chemistry Education. Additionally, candidates with curriculum development experience, knowledge of mixed-methods research, and experience in secondary science teaching are highly preferred.
