The Michigan Discipline Literacy Essentials (DLEs) provide a framework for incorporating disciplinary literacy into instruction. The Science Disciplinary Literacy Essentials provide opportunities to explore science teaching and learning. The MMSLN and CREATE for STEM at Michigan State University are partnering to introduce and explore DLE's in science through instructional practices. Using highly-effective instructional materials developed by CREATE, we will explore science instructional practice through the lens of the Discipline Literacy Essentials. 

These two days are an excellent opportunity to learn more about the DLE's, to explore how the DLE's have been incorporated into excellent teaching practice within NGSS-aligned materials, and to better understand how to support colleagues in identifying and implementing opportunities for students' to use the DLE's in their learning.
